The responsibility of the media community. Essay by Yavuz Baydar, journalist and co-founder of P24, the Platform for Independent Journalism
Central argument: Journalists around the world are constantly engaged in an ongoing endevaour to develop and define their own profession. Some of the fundamental issues we take on have to do first and foremost with ourselves: how we abide by ethical standards and perform according to professional codes of conduct. These defining boundaries of our profession must be institutionalised in the daily routines and newsroom cultures in which we work, to push back against political and economic influence – powers which our journalism has to monitor and report on.
